Tanz im August Special Edition 2020

32nd International Festival Berlin
21.–30.8.2020 | Online & Outdoor

Tanz im August Special Edition 2020 might be over as a 10-day festival, but most of the programme continues to be available on demand: films, documentaries, talks and new digital works. Recordings of the different talks from the conference “How to be Together? Conversations on International Exchange and Collaboration in the Performing Arts” will go online on 17.9.2020. All this has been made possible by the energy, generosity and creativity of the commissioned artists and many committed professionals and our audience, who joined us to keep dance relevant in these troubled times. We will dance again!

Now Online

Programme | Outdoor

The Meet the Artist productions in public space include William Forsythe's short choreographic instructions, located across the city, and media- and performance art collective LIGNA’s new radio ballet, taking place in open air.

Programme | Online

For the Special Edition 2020, Tanz im August presents online and outdoor works by artists from the original line-up as well as newly invited artists. With the open format Meet the Artist, artists give an insight into their practices with audio choreographies, digital discussion forums, texts, films and online performances. Many of the works will be followed by streamed artist talks and live Q&As.

How to Be Together? Conversations on International Exchange and Collaboration in the Performing Arts

Jointly organised by the Zürcher Theater Spektakel and Tanz im August / HAU Hebbel am Ufer.

In answer to the challenging situation that is preventing people from meeting physically right around the world, we have planned a series of discussions about the future of interchange and international collaboration in the performing arts. This three-day programme aims to inspire a trans-continental dialogue between artists, art organisers and cultural politicians, and to link those who are active in different geographical, cultural, political and professional areas.

1000 Scores

“1000 Scores. Piece for Here, Now & Later”, a project by Helgard Haug, David Helbich and Cornelius Puschke, produced by Rimini Apparat, offers an online platform for scores commissioned from various artists.

With contributions by Chiara Bersani, Maija Hirvanen, Choy Ka Fai and Kettly Noël (Commissioned by Tanz im August / HAU Hebbel am Ufer & 1000 Scores. Pieces for Here, Now & Later).

Magazin im August

The festival is accompanied by a special edition of our Magazin im August, with portraits, interviews and articles on this year’s Special Edition as well as contributions from and about the artists whose work we would have liked to present live on stage. The Magazin im August will be available in print in the Bibliothek im August and as a digital edition here.
