International dance festivals are key hubs for artistic exchange, touring opportunities, and professional growth in the contemporary dance field.

The Visiting Artist Programme is one of European Union’s leading cultural initiatives supporting dance artists as they set their sights on the world stage. With 23 partners in 22 countries across Europe, the VAP is a collaborative project aimed at stimulating artistic development, creative exchange and valuable networking. The programme offers ideal settings for artists, programmers and festival organisers to meet, share ideas, and build lasting connections.

Each year, several delegations of artists from various European cities visit partner festivals across the continent, engaging with performances, local artists, and professionals from the sector. Guided by a curated programme, participants gain insights into the international touring landscape, build valuable networks, and develop the tools and confidence to advance their careers. 

This year, Tanz im August sent artists to two festivals in Dublin and Zagreb and hosted a Visiting Artist Programme in Berlin, fostering emerging talent in contemporary dance.
