Networks


Close collaboration with and within networks has always been, and continues to be, of central importance to Tanz im August. Through partnerships with regional, national and international artists and institutions, a vibrant exchange of ideas and perspectives is fostered. These long-term collaborations strengthen both the festival’s network and visibility, as well as that of the artists involved. They also promote sustainable production practices and discrimination-sensitive ways of working. Overall, this enables the development of innovative and future-oriented programs and formats that aim to reach and connect as many people as possible.

Dance and Research In the Future Time (DRIFT)


Tanz im August, as a festival of HAU Hebbel am Ufer, is part of DRIFT since 2026, an European initiative involving ten partners, which is supporting choreographers to scale up to European and international levels. DRIFT fosters sustainable careers strengthens festivals through labs, residencies, engagement formats, showcases, co-productions and touring.

Visiting Artist Programme


The Visiting Artist Programme is one of European Union’s leading cultural initiatives supporting dance artists as they set their sights on the world stage. With 23 partners in 22 countries across Europe, the VAP is a collaborative project aimed at stimulating artistic development, creative exchange and valuable networking. Tanz im August has been part of the initiative since 2025.

Making a Difference


Making a Difference is a Berlin-based network which promote the independent work of disabled, d/Deaf and chronically ill artists in dance. Eight organisations have joined forces to create high-quality, accessible training and production opportunities through workshops, residencies and co-productions.

As part of HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Tanz im August has been collaborating with Making a Difference since 2025 and, in partnership with the network, offers free workshops during each festival edition.

Big Pulse Dance Alliance


From 2020 to 2024, Tanz im August was part of the Big Pulse Dance Alliance (BPDA), a partnership of 12 European dance festivals and institutions. Its aim was to promote and strengthen contemporary dance and expand its reach. The long-term vision of the project was to create a vibrant network of European dance festivals working collaboratively and sustainably to promote the life-changing impact of dance.
