In Music Music, Trajal Harrell reflects on more than 20 years of artistic work, using music as a carrier of memories and stories. The solo highlights his unique approach to different dance styles and the subtle humor that characterizes his work.
After group choreographies, Trajal Harrell returns to Tanz im August with a solo. While costume has long been central to his aesthetic, this time music takes centre stage – not merely as an accompaniment or stimulus for movement, but as archived memory and history that goes far beyond personal experience. Revisiting his personal canon of songs from past creations, he looks back on more than 20 years of artistic work. “Music Music: Histoire(s) du Théâtre VII” also reveals Harrell’s choreographic style: his unique perspective on dance genres that seem to be worlds apart, as well as the subtle humour that characterises his entire œuvre.
