Who owns a dance move? Jeremy Nedd and four performers deconstruct the Milly Rock, revealing its poetry and questioning who owns movement – and who profits from it.

Who owns a dance move? In 2018, rapper 2 Milly sued a video game company for using his popular dance move Milly Rock in a computer game. Inspired by this copyright lawsuit, Jeremy Nedd and four performers explore the seemingly simple movements of Milly Rock. They stylize them and create myriad variations that reveal its hidden poetry, virtuosity and freedom. At the same time, they discuss the structure of marginalized movement languages, and ask whether a dance step can be owned by someone – and if so, who benefits from it.
