The 30th edition of Tanz im August is over – Time to look back on this inspiring, moving and surprising festival. Without such an openminded and curious audience it would have never been possible. We would like to thank you to have made this festival edition one to remember!
World premieres by Berlin based choreographers Isabelle Schad, Thiago Granato and Constanza Macras shaped this year's festival programme and mirrored the diversity of contemporary dance.

Moreover many international artists enriched the festival with their productions, among them many German premieres. Apart from familiar festival stages like HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Haus der Berliner Festspiele, KINDL – Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst, Volksbühne Berlin and Sophiensaele Tanz im August also brought the festival to new places like the gallery Capitain Petzel and Deutsches Theater Berlin as well as unusal spots like the understage of Haus der Berliner Festspiele, Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz or Lilli-Henoch-Sportplatz by the Anhalter Bahnhof.
In countless talks like our beloved formats Meet the Artist and Meeting of Minds the audience had the chance to engage in a closer exchange with the artists and get insights into their artistic work and practice.
At the Awareness Boost introductions by Sebastian Matthias our audience could experience artistic concepts before the shows through their own bodies. For our younger festival guests we offered two workshops, among them the three day-long Power Moves with choreographer Nick Power and his B-Boy crew.
The Bibliothek im August became once again a space to meet and for critical reflection. In the workshop Whistle While You Work a manifesto on how to deal with sexism and discrimination in the dance world was compiled. A special talk looked at the remains of the ideals of the '68 generation and its relevance for contemporary dance. The project Scribe created a participaroty and constantly growing archive by talking to the audience and transcribing their impressions and memories.
To the sounds of selected DJs Tanz im August invited the visitors, artists, partners and helpers to many parties. We didn't just hit the dancefloor at WAU but also at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele for the opening.
Tanz im August established some spaces and places to meet and hang out, among them the new Festival Center designed by the Berlin based architects of c/o now.
