Sanford Biggers

Sanford Biggers was born 1970 in Los Angeles. He lives and works in New York. Biggers describes himself as a hip hop romanticist, meaning that he refers to the positive hip hop roots of the late 1970s up to the early 1990s in some of his works. His video Cosmic Conundrum shows parts of a performance which Biggers choreographed in 2006 for the exhibition The Missing Peace: Artists Consider the Dalai Lama (UCLA Fowler Museum). It is a dance for several break dancers who dance in the dark with LED lights attached to them. Biggers, who was a break dancer in his teens, lets the bodies disappear in the dark of the stage and shows the viewer just the colorful LED lights that are moved rhythmically to the music by the dancers.
