Robin McAlpine

Robin McAlpine is Director of Common Weal, a Scottish think tank, campaigning and advocacy organization, news service, and network of local groups that emerged during the Scottish independence referendum campaign and began operating as an independent organisation in October 2014. The organisation’s goal is to achieve a Scotland of social and economic equality and environmental sustainability, widespread democratic participation and cooperative working. Common Weal is a non-profit company with a board drawn from Scotland‘s leading activists and campaigners. The organization is self-funded through a broad network of communities and cooperatives. McAlpine started out as a journalist and worked over the last 20 years in political media relations, parliamentary relations, publishing, and policy development. McAlpine was deeply involved in the referendum campaign for an independent Scotland and has since been working to campaign for a truly participatory democracy.
