In his artistic practice, Raul Walch crosses the boundaries of the common art genres. He works as a sculptor and conceptual artist, but can just as easily slip into the role of performer or researcher. The focus is always on an unconventional, artistic engagement with social reality, with the observers themselves frequently also becoming part of a performance. Walch's playful works and actions are therefore more than just inquisitive curiosity or participatory observation, they are ephemeral and above all site-specific interventions that react to their environment in a wide variety of places in the world. Whether at Berlin art openings, transporting sculptures through Addis Abeba or raising a flag in the no-man's-land around the Fukushima Daichii Reactor, context and current politics provide the raw material for Walch's social sculptures.
