Pichet Klunchun

Thai dancer and choreographer Pichet Klunchun offers a contemporary approach to Thai classical dance while keeping with the heart and wisdom of the art form. From the age of 16 he trained in Khon, Thai classical mask dance, with Khon master Chaiyot Khummanee. In 2001 he travelled to the United States with the Asian Cultural Council fellowship and later collaborated with Jérôme Bel on “Pichet Kluchun and myself” (2004), which won the European Cultural Foundation’s Princess Margriet Award. Klunchun founded Pichet Klunchun Dance Company in 2010 in order to create contemporary dance productions and to work with young professional dancers with a background in Thai classical dance. The company, based in Bangkok, has since 2010 toured internationally across Asia, Europe and North America.
