Joana Tischkau

Joana Tischkau works as an artist, choreographer, and director. Her works expose hegemonic regimes of perception and deconstruct discourses surrounding cultural appropriation, systems of cultural reference, and authenticity. In her choreographic practice, she interweaves the discursive fields of racism, feminism, popular culture, and Black German identity, negotiating these themes beyond didactic approaches.

Her productions have toured across Europe and have been invited to numerous renowned festivals and platforms, including Tanzplattform Deutschland in Munich and Berlin, Impulse Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Radikal Jung Festival, Brecht Festival, and Politik im Freien Theater. In 2024, she received the Tabori Prize, the highest distinction in Germany’s independent performing arts scene.
