Hannah Dougherty (Philadelphia, USA, 1980) is an artist/scenographer based in Berlin. She studied painting at the Royal College of Art (London, UK). Her works have been exhibited in galleries and museums globally as well as seen on stage in theatres throughout Europe and America. Her first solo museum presentation “The Gartenhaus” in the Berlinische Gallery Museum for Modern Art (2005) was the first work in a series of site non-specific installations addressing public space, private space and our relationship with nature as an urban/post-industrial culture. These works explore various platforms for presentation, such as the garden installation at the Consulate to Rheinland-Pfalz in Dijon (“That's How Strong My Love Is”, 2013) or “Arcobaleno/Fortuna” (2013) in a recently restored 18th-century monastery in Monchiero, Italy. Her stage collaborations have included a series of props for audience participation performance with choreographer Jeremy Wade (“Creature Feature 13”, 2011) in Berlin to billboard installations for opera singers to perform with the Object Collection in New York (“Problem Radical(s)”, 2009) as well as installations exploring the archeology of catastrophe and cannibalism with Brendan Dougherty, Guido Henneböhl and Laura Bruce in “Himmelfahrtskommando” (2010).
She is represented by Martin Mertens Galerie, Berlin.
