Robyn Orlin

South-African choreographer Robyn Orlin has for the past twenty years been confronting the truths and myths of South Africa’s complex history. In her controversial and provocative performance works, she seamlessly interweaves post-colonial history with personal narratives, audience participation and mesmerising theatre. She has won multiple awards, among which the Laurence Olivier Award and most recently, France’s highest honour, the National Order of Merit. With her company Moving Into Dance Mophatong (previously City Theatre and Dance Group Johannesburg) she tours worldwide, while also including the community in her creative process and facilitating the artistic development of young dancers in her hometown. Tanz im August welcomes her back after hosting her works in 2002 and in 2018 respectively.
