15.–30.8.2014


The 26th International Festival presented 21 companies, offering a two-week-long roadmap to contemporary dance from 14 countries. The artists were concerned by a variety of contemporary topics which they shared with audiences in their productions as well as in audience engagement formats like Meeting of Minds, Dance Circles and Physical Introductions.

Berlin Dance Spaces

One of Tanz im August’s biggest strengths is its location: Berlin. The festival’s venues are as diverse as its performers, with each reflecting the multifaceted character of the capital.

TanzWerkstatt

Any history of Tanz im August must also include the history of TanzWerkstatt, which was founded in 1989 by Nele Hertling, and under the leadership of Ulrike Becker and André Thériault, organised the festival in collaboration with HAU Hebbel am Ufer until 2012.

The Hebbel-Theater

The history of "Tanz im August" is inseparably linked to the history of the Hebbel-Theater. Nele Hertling und Maria Magdalena Schwaegermann talk about the difficult founding of the theatre.
