The Swedish director and video artist Markus Öhrn subjects “Étant donnés” to a radically new interpretation. Jan Fabre wrote the solo piece, based on an artwork by Marcel Duchamp, for his actress and muse Els Deceukelier. In his staging, which came about by invitation of the author, Öhrn thematizes the instrumentalization of the nude female body on stage. He puts the protagonist in the kind of “casting couch” situation that is prevalent in the porno industry.
