Jefta van Dinther

The Quiet

Language English  Understandable without language 

Jefta van Dinther’s work has been a constant presence at HAU Hebbel am Ufer and Tanz im August. “The Quiet” brings together five women in an unsettling choreography of the ordinary, calling attention to that which is transmitted across generations. They are quiet in action, set in motion by expressions of oral traditions. Reciting, chanting and praying, they forcefully move into and out of defined and defining patterns, propelling the quotidian into transcendence. Van Dinther’s new HAU co-production engages with time in some of its overlooked forms: the taking of time, the passing of time, the falling out of time. Together with his long-standing collaborators Minna Tiikkainen and David Kiers as well as Cristina Nyffeler, Jefta van Dinther continues the intertwining of space, sound, light, and body that characterizes his choreographies. His works deal with notions of illusion, the visible and the invisible, synesthesia, darkness, labour, the uncanny, affect, voice, and image.

There are two marked parking spots in front of the building. Barrier-free restroom facilities are available. Four relaxed seats are available in the first row of HAU2. Tickets for wheelchair users and accompanying persons can also be booked via the ticketing system. Travelling to HAU2 via U Hallesches Tor:

If you are coming from Hallesches Tor underground station, you will have to use an alternative footpath from Wilhelmstraße / Hallesches Ufer junction, which is separated from the carriageway by a construction fence – the actual footpath is currently closed. Please note: the alternative route is also used by cyclists. Pedestrians should keep to the right. We therefore currently recommend that visually impaired or blind visitors come to the HAU with an accompanying person.

Arrival HAU2 via U Möckernbrücke:

When you leave Möckernbrücke underground station, please stay on the footpath on the canal side until you reach Hallesches Ufer / Großbeerenstraße junction – the opposite side is currently closed due to construction work.
