Screensaver Series: Sleeper Softwares

27.–29.8.

English with German translation

Relaxed Performance | 28.8. ● Beyond the Stage

Age recommendation: 6 years

Duration 1 h 00 min

J Neve Harrington presents a dance and sound installation that looks like a colorful screensaver. The dancers move constantly, showing images of nature, change, and care. The Relaxed Performance can be experienced in different ways.

Research into play and relationship structures forms the basis of Harrington’s artistic practice. She is concerned with access, attentional processes and neurodiversity. Her hypnotic, kaleidoscopic dance and sound installation references the constant movement of screensaver programmes. Exploring activity and inactivity, the dance creates fleeting images of nature, transformation and care work. In Berlin, the relaxed performance will be presented in a revised version that invites the audience to experience it in a variety of ways.

Further Information

Visitor note

This is a relaxed performance. Visitors can leave the church at any time and return. The audience is invited to choose freely between different seating options (benches, chairs, beanbags, cushions, the floor) or to stand. Everyone is encouraged to find different ways to get comfortable and to change their seating options and perspectives throughout the performance. Lying down is welcome. A distance to the performers should be maintained and this will be clearly indicated by the dance floor. The soundscape consists of electronic music with sounds like waves, wind and machines as well as different pitches and durations of sound. There is spoken word in English and German. The sound moves in the space and you can choose to be closer to or further from the speakers. The lighting situation includes some natural light and some stage lighting. The highest intensity is 30 mins into the work and there are no sudden changes or total blackouts. There is a separate, quieter Relaxed Space in the Villa Elisabeth in the neighboring building, where stimming toys, eye masks, comfortable seating and ear protection are available free of charge. If you have any questions or feedback, please contact the admission staff on site.
