Tanz im August Podcast

Various artists from this years’ festival have been invited to participate in an intimate conversation format. On the Tanz im August podcast, the artists are guided by voices and other sounds and speak about themselves and their work in conversation with Ricardo Carmona, the festival's artistic director. Each episode seeks to offer insights into the creative process, uncovering what’s behind the decisions they made and the knowledge they gained along the way. The artists tell listeners about their current and past projects, revealing detailed information about the works that will be on display on numerous stages around Berlin. The podcast is in English.

episode #1: Interconnecting Dance & Ecology

To kick off our new podcast series, we asked artists from the project "Interconnecting Dance & Ecology" to present their projects based on the question of how they imagine the connection between dance and ecology in 12 years.

A total of 22 individual artists and groups from Berlin were selected by a jury of four from 222 applications. They were invited to present their work on one of the festival Saturdays. These can be experienced on 12th of August in Park am Gleisdreieck, on 19th of August in Stadtpark Lichtenberg (as part of Kultursommerfestival Berlin) and on 26th of August in Volkspark Rehberge.

episode #2: Chiara Bersani

In the second episode of the Tanz im August podcast, artistic director Ricardo Carmona talks to Chiara Bersani, who gives exciting insights into her work and current projects. Her new work “SOTTOBOSCO“will celebrate its German premiere at this year's festival on 18th of August at HAU2. Further performances will follow on 19th and 20th of August.

In "SOTTOBOSCO" (Italian for "undergrowth") Chiara Bersani takes her audience and the performers into the undergrowth of an imaginary forest. The piece is based on workshops with people with motor disabilities, which she also invited to Berlin in the run-up to the festival. With them, the artist explores how disabled bodies can coexist with nature. She thus continues her intensive artistic exploration of the politics of the body and asks how autonomously created images interact with social narratives - how bodies dance.

episode #4: Agata Siniarska

In the fourth episode of the Tanz im August podcast, Ricardo Carmona talks to Agata Siniarska about her production "null&void". We are happy to announce that her new work will premiere at HAU3 on 23th of August. This will be followed by two more performances on 24th and 25th of August.

Agata Sinarska's work approaches the questions of how wars affect the fate of the planet as a whole. She asks: How can human bodies develop transhuman understanding? How can organs be used and refined to enable us to see more, feel more intensely, think differently? You are warmly invited to listen!
