Voetvolk / Lisbeth Gruwez

The Sea Within

Duration 70 min

Lisbeth Gruwez has made a name for herself with unusual, precise choreographies. In her new piece, “The Sea Within,” the Belgian dancer and choreographer no longer wishes to bring order into chaos but to allow chaos to create its own order. Together with the composer and musician Maarten Van Cauwenberghe, Gruwez founded the collective Voetvolk, which was invited to Tanz im August in 2016. The group now returns with its latest work, a contemporary ritual in which the ‘we’ embraces the ‘I’ and ten female dancers dissolve into a large, breathing landscape.
