Alexandra Bachzetsis (*1974) lives in Athens and Zurich. Her practice develops at the interface of dance, visual art and theatre, and creates a fusion of spaces in which the body can manifest as an artistic and critical machine. As a dancer she has worked for Sasha Waltz and Guests (Berlin), the Ballets C. de la B. (Ghent) and others. Since 2001 she has created more than 24 pieces that have been shown internationally in theatres, festivals international biennials and public spaces, including the Kunsthalle Basel (2008), the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam, 2013 and 2015), the Tate Modern (London, 2014), the Jumex Museum (Mexico City, 2014), at the dOCUMENTA 13 (Kassel, 2012) and the MoMA in New York (2017). Bachzetsis is the recipient of the Migros Kulturprozent Jubilee Award (2007), the Swiss Art Award (2011 and 2016) and the Swiss Performance Prize (2012). She was a guest of Tanz im August in 2014 and 2017. “Private: Song” received its first performance at the documenta 14 in Athens.
