Maryam Bagheri Nesami

Coming from the underground dance community in Iran and after having lived and performed as an undisciplined Middle Eastern dancer outside ofIran, Maryam Bagheri Nesami questions the conventional framing, homogenising gazes, categorizations and reductionist definitions of dance and moving bodies. Her practice and research focus on inclusion, non-violent resistance, strategic negotiations and micro-politics. As a doctoral candidate at the University of Auckland, her practice-led research is intertwined with gender studies, Middle Eastern studies and performance studies.
