The Hamburg-based collective LIGNA consists of media and performance artists Ole Frahm, Michael Hueners and Torsten Michaelsen. Since 2002 they have been exploring pop-up and dispersed collaborations in shows, urban interventions and performative installations. They have developed newmediaformats, such as the Radio Ballet, which invites participants to follow a choreography of forbidden gestures in formerly public, now privatized and controlled locations such as central train stations or shopping malls. In plays like “Der Neue Mensch” or “Ödipus”, the audience is invited to take over the stage and to question the theatre as a place of representation. More recent works such as “Die Große Verweigerung” and “Rausch und Zorn”immerse audience members in a complex game of which the rules are only gradually revealed. Their works have been awarded several prizes internationally.
