Claire Vivianne Sobottke

Claire Vivianne Sobottke understands her work as a place of resistance that allows norms of thinking and seeing to be changed. She is fascinated by how the body comes into being in sensuous choreographic processes. In 2017 tanz magazine named her a ‘dance hope’, and she won the audience prize at the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna for her solo “strange songs”, in which voice, sound and language are the motor and content of the choreography. With “Amazonas” (2017) she initiated an interdisciplinary platform to support young Berlin artists and to question gender-determined limitations. Claire Vivianne Sobottke teaches in various contexts, including PACT Zollverein in Essen, Uniarts Helsinki, ImPulsTanz Vienna and HZT Berlin, and works with Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods, Tino Sehgal, Tian Rotteveel, Sheena McGrandles and others.
