Catherine Gaudet studied contemporary dance at the Université du Québec in Montréal. She then established herself as a choreographer with a strong and unmistakable style. In her work she tracks down the small twitches of the subconscious in the body, those minimal movements that betray the emotions and feelings we seek to conceal. Her raw physicality is juxtaposed with a theatricality that combines absurd dramatic tension with black humour. Gaudet presented her first choreography in 2004, and made her mark in 2005 with “Grosse fatigue”, which was acclaimed at the Aarhus International Choreography Competition in Denmark. In 2009 she dealt with the consequences of loss in her first full-length piece, “L’invasion du vide”. Catherine Gaudet is one of the creative minds behind the new Centre de création O Vertigo (CCOV), together with Mélanie Demers, Caroline Laurin-Beaucage and Ginette Laurin. She is the founding member and artistic co-director of Lorganisme, which acts as her supporter and producer.
