Tanz im August 2010

22nd International Festival Berlin
19.8. – 3.9.2010

During the 22nd edition of Tanz im August, we would like to draw your attention to a topic that has become increasingly important – not only in politics and the media, but also in contemporary dance: the ethics of human existence. More often, choreographies include appeals that we should deal with people and resources responsibly. Thus dance is given the function of social criticism.
We are also focusing on dance history and young choreographers’ works. In all, we have invited 38 productions from 19 countries. There are also workshops, installations, lms, lectures, discussions and the sommer.bar program.

(Excerpt from the foreword to the 2010 programme by Ulrike Becker, Dr. Pirkko Husemann, Matthias Lilienthal, André Thériault and Marion Ziemann)

Venues 2010: HAU Hebbel am Ufer (HAU1, HAU2 und HAU3), Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, Podewil, Halle Tanzbühne Berlin, Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Radialsystem V, Akademie der Künste and Riehmers Hofgarten.

The Waves

In his new production, “The Waves,” the French choreographer and trained philosopher Noé Soulier assumes that we associate complex experiences with physical movements and postures, and develops a vocabulary of gestures that activates the body’s own memory.
